Day Six
So, we’ve survived “the week no.1”. Besides Janusz’s black eye, someone bleeding from the nose and Aurora’s terribly bruised toe - no serious injuries. Of course everyone was quietly moaning about pain in differently parts of the body (in my case, all over the body), but hey – I guess that’s a part of the nature of being a dancer so never mind, no complaining… A very intense week, not only physically, but emotionally as well. I always find it quite unusual and amazing how a group of people make collective decision to build up carefully, yet with certain commitment, a level of trust. In “normal” life - I mean outside of “the Black Pit” - it usually take ages to trust somebody, one builds a safety cocoon around himself –a “self- defence system” for not letting get hurt (again). And inside VDT I think we all realise, that the quicker we get out of this cocoon, the bigger benefit at the end of process of making the piece we going to have.
During the first week quite a few nice things have happened. Improvisations which could be a good starting points to build up some interesting stage situations. There were “pictures” based on a “serious” movement, look, stillness, silent, loneliness, delicateness, tears… as well as the situations built around a pile of dirty shoes and dozens of outrage dresses, piles of accidentally found props, and randomly set up chairs, and…Biber music on top of it.
And when you have enough, your head is full of information, and pictures, and all your body aches, thanks to God – there comes a weekend. Time-for-arranging-a-new-life-buying-plants-for-the-house-kissing-the-boyfriend-boozeing-phoning-poland.
And just when your body managed to forget what “pain” means, you come back to the studio to struggle with yourself, roll around, lift people again, collect new bruises, and when you try to recall some of the pictures, or quality that you’ve been working within last weekend, you disappoint yourself, because of forgetting lots of things… Oh why the body and mind don’t record perfectly all the “genius” ideas that you had?Patrycja Kujawska
